Project description

Air transport faces the challenge of progressively reducing its emissions in a context marked by demanding climate targets, evolving European regulations—such as ReFuelEU Aviation—long-term investments, and high technological uncertainty. Decision-making requires analyzing complex alternatives, anticipating potential regulatory effects, and having rigorous evidence available. However, available information is often fragmented, responds to different contexts, or has been generated by actors with direct commercial interests.

Faced with this challenge, the Vueling-UOC Observatory articulates a long-term collaboration between the company and the university. The interdisciplinary team from the SUMAT research group provides academic knowledge and independent analytical capacity, while Vueling contributes its knowledge of the sector and the real needs of the industry. This combination allows for studying the impact of regulation, evaluating different technological and strategic alternatives, and generating knowledge adapted to the Catalan, Spanish, and European contexts.

The collaboration takes form in strategic intelligence reports, in-depth studies, and open transfer and dissemination activities. In addition to supporting Vueling’s strategic reflection, the Observatory aims to contribute to consolidating a space for dialogue between industry, public administrations, and the academic community on the sustainable future of aviation.
