Project description

COOLSCHOOLS analyses the benefits of transforming school playgrounds into nature-based climate shelters. It studies these interventions from the perspectives of health, biodiversity, equity and education, taking children’s needs and views into account. The project compares experiences in Barcelona, Brussels, Paris and Rotterdam to understand how bringing nature back into schools can also contribute to climate adaptation in neighbourhoods and cities. UOC’s TURBA Lab group works with municipal authorities, including Barcelona City Council, to evaluate the interventions, share findings and incorporate this knowledge into public policy.
